A Pontoon Day That Starts In Gulfport And Ends Off St. Pete Beach
Guests staying along Gulf Boulevard reach our Gulfport dock in about fifteen minutes, which is often faster than finding a parking spot on the island. The 2026 TriToon carries eleven people, so a whole rental house or a reunion group fits on one boat. From the marina it is a short run south toward Pass-a-Grille and the protected water behind the barrier island, well away from the Gulf chop.
St. Pete Beach is really two different bodies of water. The Gulf side takes the wind and the swell, while the Boca Ciega Bay side stays flat most mornings. Our pontoon and boat rentals work best on the bay side, where the water is protected and the anchoring spots sit close together.
Pass-a-Grille anchors the south end and is the reason most visitors book at all. The channel behind it leads toward Shell Key and the sandbars at Bunces Pass, both an easy cruise from the marina where our Gulfport pontoon rentals start. Fort De Soto is a little further south and welcomes dogs, with a dedicated dog beach and floating docks at the boat ramp.

Pass-a-Grille
The historic south end of the island has narrow streets, small inns, and the shortest walk to the sand. Boat traffic through the Pass-a-Grille channel runs constant on weekends. Groups staying here usually head south toward Shell Key rather than fighting the pass.
Don CeSar and Upham Beach

Corey Avenue
Corey Avenue is the walkable middle of the island, a few blocks off the bay. Renters cross the Corey Causeway to the mainland and turn south for the marina, about fifteen minutes by car. Guests on our boat rentals in St. Petersburg reach the same dock from the opposite direction.
Blind Pass
The north end of the island meets Treasure Island at Blind Pass, where current runs hard through a narrow cut. Renters staying at this end have the shortest water route north. Street parking near the pass gets tight most afternoons.
Renting is simple either way you go. Visitors without boating experience usually choose the bareboat pontoon rental with a captain, hiring one directly from the published list and paying on the day of the trip. Everyone else drives themselves, provided the operator is twenty-one or older and meets Florida's education rule. Seating, capacity, and the cooler setup are covered under the pontoon boat layout and seating.
Turning north instead of south opens a different kind of day. The Intracoastal runs past Blind Pass toward the water covered by our pontoon rentals in Treasure Island, with John's Pass beyond that. Most St. Pete Beach groups pick one direction and stay with it rather than trying to do both in an afternoon.

Pass-a-Grille Channel is the local skill test. Current runs strong through the cut on an outgoing tide, and weekend traffic stacks up with everything from kayaks to charter boats. Wake control matters here, and so does staying inside the markers. Newer boaters do better holding in the bay and watching the pass from a distance.
Blind Pass at the north end is narrower and shoals in places. The flats on the bay side of the island run shallow at low tide, and manatee zones limit speed across much of that water. Shell Key fills with anchored boats on Saturdays and Sundays, so arriving before eleven makes a real difference. Hiring one of the freelance captains for hire takes all of that off your plate.
Island parking is the other reality of a beach day. Gulf Boulevard lots fill by mid-morning in season, which is why driving inland to the marina is usually the easier half of the trip.
